Information

Feline calicivirus (FCV) is a common respiratory virus in cats, highly contagious and primarily transmitted through saliva and airborne droplets. The incubation period is 2 to 3 days.

Clinical Symptoms:

Clinical symptoms mainly include oral diseases and respiratory infections. Once infected, cats may experience sneezing, oral ulcers, nasal congestion, fever, lethargy, and an increased amount of discharge in the mouth, eyes, and nose. As the condition worsens, symptoms such as difficulty breathing and pneumonia may occur, potentially leading to the death of young cats. FCV is a serious threat to cats, emphasizing the importance of implementing a comprehensive protection plan to shield them from viral threats.

Preventive Measures:

FCV occurs most commonly in multi-cat environments, including shelters, pet shops, and breeding colonies. In public settings, ensuring daily disinfection and maintaining a clean environment serves as the initial measure to prevent viruses. In households, it is essential to offer clean food and water sources for cats, along with providing a secure living space.

While vaccination cannot completely eliminate the threat of FCV to cats, it plays a crucial role in establishing their immune defenses, therefore it can greatly reduce the severity of the infection once the cats are exposed. Combining vaccines with regular health checks and advanced diagnostic technology helps promptly detect the virus and minimize its impact on cats.

Diagnostic Methods:

Traditional diagnostic technologies include immunological methods (ELISA or antigen detection) and polymerase chain reaction technology (PCR), which can help to trace potential pathogens in cats, however, they are unable to achieve accurate detection in a short period of time.

Pluslife Molecular POCT Solution for pets integrates the rapidness of immunological tests such as ELISA or antigen detection with the accuracy of PCR testing. It enables accurate testing within 30 minutes. Moreover, it is affordable for primary healthcare settings, while it can be easily operated with guidance. Pluslife pet products are suitable for various application scenarios, including pet stores, pet hospitals and clinics, and even households.
